FAQ

Q: What does "Maru" mean?

A: Maru (丸) means "round" or "circular" in Japanese, but it is also a commonly used suffix for names of prized possessions, usually ships and swords. It was also historically used commonly as a suffix for boys' names.

Maru (마루) also means "floor," "gathering place," or "summit" in Korean.

When coming up with the name, we tried to settle on a name that is easy to pronounce but also meaningful.

Q: Do you have anything ready-made?

A: We believe that freshness is the life of sushi, so we don't believe in storing sushi in the fridge. We make everything to order, including the seasoning of the rice. Our sushi philosophy is that sushi should be served as fresh as possible, so we do not keep anything ready-made in stock.

Q: Do you offer all-you-can-eat sushi?

A: No. Sorry!

Q: I'm in a hurry. Can I make an order and pick it up right now?

A: Unfortunately, most of the time we cannot cater to requests like these. We make every order to-order in the order that they come in. We do not prioritize orders based on price or size. We suggest that our patrons place their orders at least an hour before the desired time of eating.

Q: Why is my relatively small order taking so long to make?

A: The average order takes between 10 to 20 minutes to make. If your wait time is longer than that, it usually means that there are several other orders we have to prepare before we can begin to work on yours.

Q: I have a gluten allergy. What can I eat?

A: Many of our items are made without gluten, such as the salmon sushi, cucumber rolls and avocado rolls. However, because they are made in an environment where we do handle gluten items such as tempura, we cannot guarantee any item to be 100% gluten free. Please tell us in advance if you have a food allergy and we will do our best to take cautions while preparing your order.

Q: I want to try sushi, but I'm intimidated by raw fish. What can I eat?

A: We have several sushi items that don't include raw fish, such as the yam & avocado roll and the dynamite roll. We also offer Korean dishes such as bulgogi and spicy pork. Please refer to our menu for more options.

Q: Can I order a bento, and substitute the components for something else?

A: Unfortunately, no. Sorry!

Q: Can I order a roll tray, and substitute the components for something else?

A: The great thing about our roll trays is that they are customizable. The 30pc roll tray is five classic rolls of your choice, the 46pc roll tray is five classic rolls and two special rolls of your choice, and the 72pc roll tray is eight classic rolls and three special rolls of your choice. However, the number of classic rolls and special rolls cannot be changed.

Q: Will you ever have dine-in options?

A: Unfortunately, not in the forseeable future. However, we do have our patios open for patrons during the spring and summer.

Q: Do you have chicken fried rice/General Tao chicken/wonton soup?

A: No. Please visit your local Chinese restaurant for that.
